Awards season: It’s Oscar Time!
No sooner are the BAFTA nominations announced than the Oscars follow suit, in a ceremony that seemed to signal it was business as usual as far as the Academy were concerned, Writers Strike-wise. Everything is still up in the air at the moment but here’s hoping that the writers and studios manage to reach some sort of agreement before the big day. Nominations-wise, there weren’t too many shocks this year, although some were surprised that Keira Knightley and James McAvoy missed out on acting nominations for Atonement. …

Awards season: All eyes on the BAFTAs
Earlier this week, the Writers Strike reduced the sprawling, normally 4 hours plus Golden Globes ceremony to a brisk 32 minute press conference that went by so quickly it left even the BBC News 24 reporters struggling to catch up. With the Oscars currently under threat of the same treatment, all eyes are turning towards the BAFTAs, which were announced this week. Given that the stars may be forced to boycott the Oscars as they did the Globes, the BAFTAs could be their only chance to get the frocks out this year, so there are high expectations for a bigger turn-out than usual.
