Great night there started off over the road at a bar called the retreat and finished it off here. was amazing. me and all my friends had a brill night. massive club feels like being in london or manc. great music and great set up they got going on there. Staff were sooo friendly, read some of the reviews on here and dont know where the bad ones are coming from. think they went to a different club coz bouncers were chatty and friendly, maybe you were a bit too drunk :-)
anyway well worth a visit to see for yourself. Free entry to NUS holders get in!

Absolutely dreadful place! I went there with a friend and had one of the worst times ever. The clientele are just down right nasty, I had ice chucked at me, the security did not care when I complained and neither did the manager. I will not be returning there ever. Avoid!

Avoid this place, complete rip off. They have a so called deal where you can buy a wristband for £25 where you get entry and 10 drinks included. If you ask for a spirit and mixer, you only get the mixer. Very inconsistent on what drinks are covered.
Have been told by one of the bar staff that management have this policy. (basically people are probably too drunk to notice - therefore rip them off).
It is a recession after all - club has to make profit but not from me!!

I was very upset by flamingos. Last night i paid £13 to have a night out at flamingos. I felt optimistic until they let all my friends in and disallowed me even though I merely had two glasses of wine. I proved I could walk in a straight line and repeat the alphabet. I believe their system of letting people in is appalling. At GCSE achieved 7A*'s and 5A's and despite this I can’t enjoy a night out even if people younger than me who have drank more than me can.
After being discriminated against i asked if I could speak to the manager but they refused to allow me. Once I got home I once again I rang up and asked to speak to the manager but they did not allow me. I am still currently trying to get hold of flamingos yet they have not replied. Very disappointed at this club and service and would recommend people to stay clear.
I would rate this at minus 10 however the lowest it will allow me to rate is at 1 star.

Went to Flamingos with the bf and a mate on New Year's Eve, as we'd had a good time there last year.
Although the club has been greatly improved since last year the night was a bit of a let down.
The host for the evening was drunk and liked the sound of his own voice on the microphone and thought it entertaining that we watched him kiss another chap on stage....it wasn't!
The farcical point of the night was when he said we were going over 'LIVE' to Big Ben for the countdown.....it was obvious to see this was a recording - the words 'DVD' and 'Play' displayed on the screen gave it away! To top it all the 'LIVE Countdown' was over 3 minutes late.....they only had to get one thing right on the evening and they couldn't even do that.

I've always had a good night in Flamingos, depending how I'm feeling there are 2 arenas to choose from. Went to the re-opening night of arena 1 on the 18th December and it's a massive improvement!! More room, more bars and just looks a lot more modern. The DJ always seems to get the music spot on for a fun night out! Great value for money, even if they haven't got the wrist band deals on (drink the bar dry) they always have good offers on. You know it's a good night by the amount of straight people that go there. Love it!

WOW - visited Flamingos on the night after the Bristol Pride after a period of absence and what a night. The club is now looking amazing, particularly the House room towards the back of the club which has undergone a fantastic re-decor and lighting and sound refit. It now feels like you could be out clubbing in London. The dance floor was packed all night and the music was amazing and the crowd were hot!! Loving it and really friendly. A great atmosphere and congratulations to whoever it was who put up all the amazing decoration for the night BURN. It looked wicked. Have never seen so much effort go into a club night in Bristol. Even the chart dance floor was great fun and it is so good that Flamingos have now sorted out all of their toilets and added extra cubicles which all look really smart and saves having to queue all the time. Loved it, looking forward to heading back again this month for a good dance.

I love Flamingos! Yes I am a straight girl, but not one that gets completely drunk and pushes people out of the way. As for being predominantly straight, that's rubbish. I wish as some of the men in there are fit but the are all gay! The bar staff and door staff are great and really helpful and friendly. They seem to make it their mission to ensure all gay people are safe and even make sure you get a good taxi company home! Well worth a night out, particularly on sat when there are more people and more rooms open. The same company and door staff also work at the Shilling, so in terms of the security it is no worse or better in either place! Drinks offers are good and are well worth buying the wristband (or now thanks to new government rules the card with 10 free drinks on it)! Get down there and try it out!

Flamingos is pretty much what you'd expect from a gay club...

Cheesy music, cruisy atmosphere, flashy lighting effects and a bitchy pretentious crowd.

Saturdays tend to the busiest nights... Fridays are relatively busy but there tend to be more straight people around. Wednesdays is the student night but the all you can drink offer is a bit of a sham because the drinks are incredibly watered down.

If youre in a big group of people and just want to go out to have a dance then its not bad and worth a night out.

If youre out to meet new people or chill out then dont bother because youll likely just come away with a sour taste in your mouth.

I went to Flamingos for the first time last Friday, having recently moved to Bristol to start at uni. Its not London by any stretch of the imagination, but it is good.

There were as some of the reviews said quite a few straight women (well at least I think they were straight), but I would say at least 80% of the people there were gay.

It was £15 drink the bar dry with my NUS card, and that included all spirits, bottles and pints (with only a few exclusions), I dont know what everyones moaning about, I come from London and its at normally between £10 and £15 to get into a gay club, so for me £15 in and a huge choice of free drinks included, is definately great value.

Also I tried the Queen Shillin as suggested by one of the reviews on here, and quite frankly you've got to be joking if you call that a club,

its some old pub with a dancefloor, an unsafe staircase to get down to the dungeonous toilets that absolutely stink, and have no working taps!

Really enjoyed myself, at Flamingos, will definately back again, and looking forward to trying it again on a Saturday!

The last time I went to Flamingos I was attacked by 5 'men' for talking to their mate then, whilst recovering from the shock, was violently ejected by the neanderthal door staff.

Definitely the scummiest club I've been to in Bristol for a long time.

Oh yeah, the 'drink the bar dry' night only sells a limited range of crap drinks.

One to avoid.

flamingos is a great place to go you always have a great time, £20 drink the bar dry on a friday night is the best way to start your weekend,

one problem is the smoke that is releast in to the club is just to much and some times you cant see and it makes your eyes sore....

apart from that i love this clubxx

Door staff with attitude.Bar staff with attitude.

And full of straight people with attitude.Great club spoilt by the management being complacent about their position (they own the pub across the road and the Lounge further down Old Market) and a perceived door policy of letting in everyone else before a gay person ..

.. go to the Queens Shilling across town (near the Pineapple) for a better atmosphere and a better night out

Saturday night in flamingos is nothing more than a straight club that lets gay people in. If you love being pushed out of the way by leery drunk straight women, or want to go to a club where there seems to be a disproportionate number of straight guys, which doesn't help if you wanna pull, then go and spend your money.

If this is what gay nightlife has turned into, then ill stick to going to straight clubs, cos its a lot more fun. The first dance floor you hit after paying is reminiscent of a school hall, painted white (mm good choice to create atmosphere) and feels like a cheap social club.

Overall the experience left me wondering what gay nightlife is reducing itself too. Its very flattering that so many straight people want to be there, but there was no gay atmosphere, the music was either banging or quite frankly, c*** ; at one point playing Dolly Parton (Cheese; there's cheese and there's cheese...)

This is not what gay clubs are about...any one having gone to London or birmingham will tell you. I was hoping for a great night out and all i got was mediocre commercial cheese. If your looking to go out to a good gay club with atmosphere, a slight underbelly of mystery and packed with gay people, I would go elsewhere.

£15 drink the bar dry is a great idea if you can actually go to the bar and don't be lulled into a false sense of being able to get drinks from any bar...the offer is not on downstairs, which of the two dance-floors is the best in terms of atmosphere...at least its not stark white.

Ill leave Flamingos to the drunk straight leery women who obviously go there to feel safe, dance and push people out of the way whilst they stagger around on their cheap shoes asking really dumb questions of any gay guy they can find...and before you think Im a bitter twisted old pouf....I just wanted the majority of people there to be gay...not straight.

Without doubt one of the best gay clubs in the South West, and certainly the biggest. I've been quite a few times now, and would recommend Saturdays for a great night out. The whole club is open on a Saturday, its got two main rooms and a chill out area / quiet bar. The music in the front room was chart and cheese which I really like. In the back room they play electro and house music which isn't really my thing.

The club has a great smoking area at the back of the club with plants, seating etc, and a small rather grotty area at the front, but in both areas you can smoke and take your drink with you, which is great.

Well worth a visit.
