Hey nice to see a few reviews of years gone by. I used to live at platform 1 in 79 til about 82. The names you mention bring back memories. I would like to track down bernie salt to say hi if anyone knows his details. Great club and a great bunch of guys. Dave Dowse was a character and shame his son Tony died so early in life!

Hi Glenn I'm sure we must have met down there. I started back in 1974 until I moved to Florida in 84 !! Wow, 10 years of all that fun. Not sure about Bernie. Tried doing some research in births, marriages and deaths. Found an old girlfriend I met there who has been married twice, the second time 21 years and going strong, but Bernie may have died. Saw a death in 2009 of a B Salt, born in Bristol 1955. That would have been him but alas no details. Maybe his sister, Karen, is still around the Bristol area. Hope it was not him but I fear the worst. Have a few photos we took at his house in Pill from 1979 !! He had that crazy Afghan hound that laid turds all over his back yard and sometimes on his carpet : ) Or maybe that was just Bernie hahahaha!

Not sure if anybody is still reading this thread... I was "one of the guys from Keynsham" - Chris Lee - I was one of the DJ's that covered for Bernie on nights off, then took over the decks along with DJ Richard and Rob James.

Sadly Bernie died in a Motorbike accident - in Greece, I think, and it was quite a few years ago, pretty much around the time that he worked there.

True that P1 was the place to be... There were a good selection of clubs in Bristol in those days, but P1 was the place to be seen... I lost count of the amount of 'stars' that used to be there after a performance at the Colston Hall or other venues - truly amazing times that still remain strong in my memory.

I believe that the place has been resurrected, but sadly my night clubbing days are now few and far between, so probably will not be go to have a look! But if any of the 'old crowd' fancy a get together I still have contact with some of the guys....

I agree! There was a fight at closing time on Saturday night and the bouncers stood back and watched as a black man was taken to the floor, punched, kicked and bitten by a group of at least ten White men. They did nothing as I, as a woman, intervened to help and shouted to the bouncers to get rid of the guys who were kicking off...They should be closed down! It is not a safe place!

My friends Sarah, Heather, and I used to go to this venue every Friday back in the 1970s. I even ended up working there behind the bar. Have many happy memories of the people I met there. Wonder where they are now? There was Dave Douse and Bruce (owners) Jim Cassidy (the manager) and Gerry McMillan. Keith Vallee was DJ in those days. It was very much the place to be in the mid 70s. We even had a visit from the Elton John band and Bryan Ferry. If anyone out there remembers me (e.g. Dave Leakey, Gerry, Graham or Bill) would love to hear from you.

Hi Suzanne I was there between 1973-77 constantly, then when I moved to London between 77 and 79, once a month. After 84 I moved to Florida. I remember the McMillans, Dave Douse, Dave Leaky, Big Steve, the builder and his gang, the guys from Keynsham, the guy with the 911 Targa, etc etc, Kieth and then Bernie Salt took over there for a while. Cant find Bernie anywhere on Google. I LOVED that place. It was like Cheers with a great dance floor. I have a web site, and on the contact page is a current pic of me and one of the Audi drivers at Sebring, taken when I was shooting for them until they quit NA at the end of 08. If you recognize my mug, let me know !!!How many of us are left I wonder?

I used to live in this place between 1973 and 1984. I was at college then worked in Brissle before fleeing to the Colonies. It was the best place in Bristol at the time. First there was Keith Valle dj, then Bernie Salt, and before I left, Danny. . A real fun place. Never a dull moment. Met many fine ladies there. ahhhhhh the memories.

Well, sorry, I've been away for a couple of decades. The P1 I lived in is now The Roo Bar. But back then it was called Platform 1 or just P1.
Feel a little old now but hope the new location has the same fun factor that the original P1 had. The old place was a 5 star fun spot.
