International flavours conjured from local produce, washed down with interesting wines, cracking cocktails, local beers and ciders in a friendly and chilled out bar awash with great music – this is the ultimate festival experience but in the heart of the city.
Who needs wellies and groundsheets when you can this much fun?
wow what a transformation! never thought id be tucking into great tapas in the same place native used to be.
Was expecting the good DJ, big chill style, but was very pleasantly surprised by the food.
will be having our christmas party here!
spent most of saturday night here in the company of dj derek and a couple of hundred party people, all having a ball.
definitely captured the big chill vibe! things obviously improved vastly since the slow service problems of the opening weekend -
no major wait at the bar all night, and id recommend the rum punch.
Having visited the BigChill Bar in London (on both a busy Friday and Saturday night) I was very excited at the prospect of one opening in Bristol, though I'm afraid so far it has fallen well short of my expectations.
I visited the venue twice on 10th October and on both occasions have been extremely disappointed with my experience. My first visit was at lunchtime when we were planning on having a meal.
After ordering drinks, we were told, contrary to what was published, they would not be serving food until 6pm.Due to the promising evening lineup (and hoping our initial experience was just down to teething problems), we decided to give them a second chance.
In the evening we arrived at roughly 10pm, the bar was already four deep and after persistently waiting to be served for over half an hour.
It seemed we had no chance of getting served in the near future (other equally patient people in the queue before us, had still yet to be served) so we finally gave up.I have worked in a busy bar myself and so have had experience with turning round customers.
The staff seemed both inefficient and incompetent (in some cases even struggling to pour a pint), thus blatantly lacking the basic skills required in a bar environment. There was also no obvious presence of a bar manager on duty to vent my concerns to.
It seems they have gone to so much effort in other aspects of the bar, such as decor (not to mention the line up) for them to fall so short with the very basics. My previously positive impressions of the BigChill brand have been jaded by my experience.
