I'm mostly writing a review as I got so irritated by the ones posted on here already. I have been to the huntsman an awful lot of times, everytime the meat has been perfectly cooked with no fat, the veg lovely and great roast potatos.
All I want to say is, for £3.99, the food is phenomenal, so what if it isn't sparkling clean everywhere, after all they are busy. I can't say a bad word against this pub and think that when you pay such a low price for such great food you have a cheek to give it any less than 4 stars!
Rant over.
P.S. I have also been to the toby carvery in maes knowle, which is nearly twice the price, and its absolute rubbish!!
Kitchen staff, working at the Huntsman have been seen on many occasions walking to work in their chef whites. This is cross contamination. By the looks of the chef whites they could do with some clean ones as well.
I have eaten at this pub now on a number of occasions. I agree the cleanliness is rather bad which would lead me to question the state of the kitchen. Having said that the food is actually great, good value for money and the pub overall has a pleasant atmosphere. The staff are also friendly. Its a shame because if this pub was cleaner I think it would be superb. The cleanliness is the only thing that lets this pub down.
I went to the Huntsman on a Saturday afternoon on 03.04.10. It wasn't very busy and so a table was easily found. Me and some friends had come for the carvery for which you are charged £3.99 not the £3.49 it says if you go on the pub's website. I was rather appalled at the state of the seating, dirty and beer stained. How on earth they have the nerve to provide seating like this baffles me. The female barperson was efficient but lacked a welcoming smile. I only noticed two real ales on offer, which surprised and disappointed me. Lagers are available if you can't take a mans drink. I had what looked like the "guest" ale, which was very good. At the carvery we were given a decent amount of meat, ball of stuffing and a Yorkshire and all were very good. The roast potatoes were a bit too scorched but otherwise ok. The veg was also fine. The gravy tasted ok but was too thin. We didn't have a pudding. Now I'm not a person that must have everything antiseptically clean but it does worry me what nasties might be lurking on the cutlery that you find in the pots left out on the tables. Not everybody washes their hands after going to the toilet, lets be honest, and then those same hands rummage around the cutlery pot as you look for a knife and fork that isn't bent. Overall the Huntsman is a pleasant enough pub with plenty of space (I didn't get to check out the toilets) and the carvery is good value for money. It doesnt stand head and shoulders above other carvery's but on the other hand you could do a lot worse. I will go back.
My wife and I visited the Huntsman in Wesrerleigh road Mangotsfied on Saturday evening 20 February at 6.45pm as we were in the district. We had a carvery. First impressions on the servery was poor, when I asked the young lady who was carving why the servery was in such a mess with Meat rind , string and fat all around the spits, and dried up food all around the servery dishes, her reply " we are very busy"
After we had eaten our unappetising meal we had noticed that only two other people had been served. BUT STILL the servery had not been wiped or cleared. On my way out I spoke to the manager who said he would sort it out !! Do we have to expect such bad service from these country places? or should they be reported on health grounds.

Huntsman Inn is a terrific place to take the family and have a meal. We went here for my birthday on a sunday and the carvery is something to shout about. Its lovely. Saves the washing up too, lol
