I wanted a small venue for a private birthday party on a Sunday afternoon. After checking out various places in the area I found Langley Arms with a private restaurant to accomodate 30 people.Perfect.It lived up to all our expectations. The meal was booked For Sunday January 8th at 2.00.p.m.We were allowed to go in earlier to decorate with suitable banners, balloons and display our own birthday cake and phoptgraphs etc.Food from the carvery was excellent served by the most helpful chef. Then followed desserts, tea and/or coffee served by the most pleasant and helpful witresses who just pleased everyone The use of the restaurant was so private and made for a fabulous 70th birthday meal. Thanks to all in Langley Arms who helped to make Sunday 8th January a perfect surprise for my husband. We will certainly book the place again at a future date.

AVOID THIS PUB AT ALL COSTS, UNLESS YOU WANT A £2 MEAL BUT PAY £20 for an apparent Xmas Meal. would get a better xmas meal down the homeless shelter. This pub has to be in the running for the worst pub in Britain. I believe the good reviews must have been written by, staff family or friends. A resturant how can you call yourself that Come again I dont think so. Unfriendly, most pubs of this status would be laughing at the leave of service, I couldnt complain at the service as there was not any, well to call home about.

If you love the TV show "Life on Mars" you may love this place because it was like time had stopped in 1972. This place is nothing like their classy looking website indicates. The farmhouse-esque pictures are of another building behind it so driving through a housing estate to find a spit and sawdust pub comes as quite a shock.

At over £20 a head, this was the worst Xmas dinner experience I have ever had. The prawn cocktail starter was slopped on the plate next to a chunky old school garnish and served with 3 little triangles of cheap white bread. The turkey dinner main course was overcooked to the point that there were more black items on the plate than not. The jam sponge and custard desert was mysteriously covered in strawberry ice cream syrup.

To top it off,all but 1 of the xmas crackers had the same joke & toy! :D

The service was unbelievably sloppy and lack lustre. We asked for wine which was just slapped onto the table, not opened or poured.

I was out voted on walking out due to people not wanting to start the adventure of finding a new group booking elsewhere at such short notice and the only upside to the whole trip is that it is now the funny story from xmas for 2011.

Absolutely diabolical; I would NEVER eat there again. If this was prison food, the inmates would riot or go on hunger strike!

Agreed the this has to be voted the worst pub in Britain wouldn't take my dog there for diner. This is definitely a steer clear pub. I believe the good reviews must have been written by, staff family and friends.

I could of served better food and believe me I cant cook, I must of eaten there when the chef was on holiday, just like the review above Terrible.

This was over priced and as round the corner from sainsbury's, must have shopped there, because the bread was a thin a school toilet paper and the mince pies it think had been sat on. sainsbury's value range, but charged over £20 for the meal. I think the meat I had was bought from the deli counter and heated through.

How this could be called a resturant I dont know. Annoyed is not the word, disgusted is still too tame.

Come again I dont think so.

Unfriendly staff bar and waiting. Wish I could leave a minus * review but I have to give it 1 to leave a review

I would recommend this pub for their carvery. They are very tasty and more like a home made roast than any other carvery I've been to.

It can get busy on a Sunday so might be best to book if your in a larger group (4 or more). Carvery now on till 6pm on a Sunday £7.99 or Thur & Fri lunch times for £5.

You can have a choice of 3 meats or all 3, then its help your self to as much veg as you want, including Roast pots, new pots, mashed pot, cauliflower cheese, roast parsnips, mushy peas etc.

Staff have always been friendly and courteous and the cook is always happy to give my 3 year old son a small plate for us to fill from the carvery free of charge.

I really have to disagree with what you have said. I have never found the pub to be dirty and I have been going there since it first opened. Neither have I found it intimidating.

I have taken my two young children to the pub on numerous occassions and think it is a lovely family pub with fantastic food. I have always found it to be very clean and welcoming.

I would highly recommend this pub to anyone.

You must have been very unlucky the time you visited the Langley, or of a certain ilk given your username. I am a local and would dispute your 'not a very nice place to take the family' comment. I have never found it dirty and certainly have never felt intimidated, just very welcome and relaxed. My only criticism would be that the main bar 'barn' area is overlit in the evenings, a much better atmosphere would be achieved with more subtle lighting.

Just been to the langley for Thurseday lunch carvery. The food was excellent, very tasty, real roast potatoes, fresh veg etc. Delicious. Great value for money £5 carvery or £7.50 with a pudding. Good sized portion of meats, then help yourself to as much of the rest as you want.
The staff are warm welcoming and friendly and the area we dined in was comfortable, clean and relaxed.

Great pub, country atmosphere even though its in the middle of an housing estate. Lovely food and good service. Roast potato`s always need too be cooked longer too crisp outside off though, well that's my personal way i like my roast potato`s anyway, lol. Can get very busy on a Sunday.
