An occasional visitor from 'over the bridge'.
Myself, plus two friends were pleased to find the staff pleasant, customers sociable and a good variety of music being played. It has certainly improved. Bitter available in bottles was also a nice suprise to me!

Its a shame that for a Friday there were not so many people in but compared to the other gay bars it was busy! Bristol, though continues to have an overall fragmented, lack lustre gay scene. I just hope this is the start of an upturn.

Decided to check the queenshilling out on my return to bristol from uni, havnt been in there for nearly 4 years and what a difference, everything and everyone has changed, but still has a sexy vibe-rent feel to the place, through all its changes, its somehow clung on to its unique charm, The music was fantastic, if you wasn't up dancing you was singing along to the music at the top of your lungs, a really rich mix of people.
bar staff are great, only paid £2 entry and was offered a free shot as soon as i got to the bar, (WIN) I think i remember a pint being £3.40, shots were (i think) 4 for £5? so cant complain :)
Id recommend anyone who's anyone to try this place out.
Much better then their neighboring gayclub 'OMG' The door staff were rude and it was filled with drunk aggressive children.

Queenshilling, Bristols number one LGBT venue! Always such a great night in here, staff really look after you and make you feel welcome!

Karaoke on a Monday night is the best, such a giggle!

Give it a try sometime!

Well considering they have new staff and a new manager who are supposed to be better than before the venue is still a disappointment. We're students and we went there looking for a fun night out, simple.
I was actually shocked by the rude service, the manager in particular, these people are horrible and something should be done about it, it's not the first time it's happened and I'm pretty sure it won't be the last- everyone we know thinks so. Bristol is an amazing city going through fantastic cultural changes, great art, brilliant music and a booming student community, I refuse to believe that it can't have decent gay venues, especially in the city centre. This is disgusting!! It's such a pity because they have a nice sound system and a cool location.

Hi Bristolfun
I’m Paul Stoodley licensee and General Manager at Queenshilling, I’m disappointed to read your comments and find that you did not enjoy your visit to our venue. The staff and I do everything we can to encourage students into our venue and try to ensure that we offer a safe fun and friendly place to party. We are all proud of our award winning venue and everything it has to offer. I see you have also left negative comments for two other venues on the Bristol gay scene. It’s such a shame you feel this way while the gay scene in Bristol is thriving. I’m really keen to meet you personally and would love to chat with you over a drink and see what we can learn from your bad experiences here at Queenshilling my only intention is to learn from our mistakes and improve our service, standard’s or value
Kind regards
Paul Stoodley

...WOW...

I've Always Loved the bristol scene, so laid back and alternative, yet classy and Queenshilling has all of this, recently went with a few gay friends from work and felt really excepted straight away, music was awesome, commercial chart hits along with club classics and even some cheeky drum and bass, met loads of people and all in all had one of my best nights out in a long time, was really impressed with the shots on offer.

Cant Praise This Place Enough.

I went here recently on a trip to Bristol with friends - the atmosphere was great, with a mixed crowd and room to move without getting drinks spilled over us and Lady Gaga blasted at us (like some of Bristol's other gay venues we had tried!). The free jukebox is a great feature and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend :D

Came to Bristol recently to visit some friends, and had to visit my old stomping grounds. I grew up in Somerset and remember the Queen Shilling fondly. Back then it was the main destination for a gay night out in Bristol. In recent years, though it had become somewhat run down, and had lost its edge somewhat.

Now,the bar has been recently renovated and look great, it is clean (both the loos and the bar) and the staff are sooo friendly. Music was also just up my street. They claim to be no attitude and I think they got that part right as well. We visited a few other bars in the area and were not a patch on the Shilling.

The QS has been given a new lease of life. Do visit if your in the area, it is the top gay night out in the south west.

The queenshilling has certainly changed. They sell doom bar now too, finally an ale on a late night out on the gay scene. Genius! My sister was able to drink the starwberry cider, and the staff not only smiled but made us laugh. Nice one :-)

What an absolutely cracking night out. Attended the queenshilling for the re-launch last Saturday. Extremely good service and charming staff. Fantastic atmosphere and loads to see and do. Queenshilling is definately back on the map as far as I'm concerned and can't wait for this Saturday for Pride. Well done to the new owners and managers the place has never been so good !! Hats off to you!

This place as tried to re-brand so many times its just becoming a joke. Its tiny, the toilets are disgusting and the "Manager" is extremely rude. Not worth a visit if you want a decent night out. Head to Flamingos instead - its much bigger and offers a better night out.

Hi this venue is now under new ownership the old manager and all of the rude staff have been fired and have relocated to another venue. New owner prides him self and the venue on it's service standards and value. Please come down to the venue and see for yourself. Any new positive comments very welcome. Any problems please ask to speak to the new owner Paul Stoodley who is fair and reasonable and will try as hard as possible to resolve them.

Dear bristolnights please come back and take another look. Loads has happened at the shilling since you wrote your comment. It's still work in progress and will be for years to come. But it's so much smarter
Now even the loos work. X

Expensive small bar/disco that will set you back up to £8 to get in ... what do you get for that? Perhaps some DJs from London? No! The cheap club DJ that plays the same old tat! Expensive drinks, lemon- sucking bar staff and miserable bouncers.

They don't put in any effort into this place and are happy to screw the gays with over-priced drinks and door charge.

Go to Old Market and its time to move on from the Queen Shilling, it has certainly had its day!

The Queens Shilling is a welcome break from the Flamingos/Old Market scene....

I personally think that Old Market takes too much for granted at least the Pineapple/Queens Shilling are doing something to entertain the owners of the pink pound ...

(Come on Old Market it takes more than just opening doors to warrant gay custom .... I can go to Wetherspoons and get cheaper drinks and mingle with a load of straights with attitude)

The Queens Shilling has changed over the years but so have most places, but you will always have a good time.

The QS is a welcome escape from the flamingos cattle market, true it has changed throughout the years but so have most places . I admit I go there rarely but always have a good time when I do, even if I am the oldest queen in the village

Not what it used to be. I used to love the Shilling (and still do deep down), but its never really busy now, except maybe a Thursday night. Its not the clubs fault, but everything on the scene is moving. Since vibes and most of the pubs in that area shut, everyones over in Old Market. Theres a load of gay bars over there and Flamingos is always packed (although it needs a refit sonn me thinks!). Its a shame to say it, but probably best to give it a miss. Rich x

Would have to agree with everything you've said, apart from the fact that i've never really liked the place.
