For the last 6 months the horseshoe has gone from strength to strength and is getting a good reputation for food and quality service, we have a great menu and specials board with food prepared by fully trained chefs, we would like to thank our loyal customers and hope you will all keep enjoying the food as we enjoy you all coming here. Again we will try to please everyone but there a few who try to put us down when it doesn't go there way. We will keep moving forward and listen to the comments we receive on site by our customers, we want everyone to return so any feed back is good for us in our mission to delivery the best.
having visited this pub in may 2013 it had just been taken over and food was great, service and very friendly management and staff.
Went back in july 2013 and can only describe it as gone backwards with forgetfull staff, lack of awareness and customer needs and poor quality of food being served.
Personaly would avoid until they sort this out, plenty of other pubs nearby with better food and staff who are interested in getting it right/
I have been to the horseshoe pub for food. for the past 2 months for various family occasions. & the food was lovely. very well presented & cooked beautifuly.
Until!! we decided to stop in for a meal on a sunday lunch time, it was,nt a sunday roast Lucky enough as the persons on the other table had been told they had run out by 1.15pm on a sunday!! A prawn cocktail, which was just ok. as the lettuce was big pieces of kos lettuce not even shredded so made it very diffulcult to eat. A ploughmans, & BBQ chicken. it was a complete waste of money! the ploughmans consisted of the most awful mild cheese about 350g of it. the rest def did not even look like a ploughmans! my chicken had just been slopped together. the chips were cold & old! I did return it & had new chips. but by this time i was gone past it!
I did complain to the waitress & she did her best. but when we asked for salad cream!! was told we did,nt have any. What sort of food pub is this! i would of thought salad cream & sauces are store cupboard things for food places obviously not the horseshoe.
I think the chef that had previously been there, when we had good food there. Had left. from what i have since discoverd.
Well they need to get someone in there who can cook!!
Not been in this pub for going on 12+ years & have recently started using it again as it is now within walking distance, had some fabulous weather recently and the staff have worked hard throughout & stayed smiling. Had a Ploughmans last night & it was a real belly buster, good value for money as I wasn't hungry for the rest of the night, nice pub, nice staff, nice garden recommended.
Having eaten here previously (circa 5 months ago) and not being too impressed with my meal, I was rather reluctant to revisit. However, I was told that the new landlords had introduced their new menu and was predominantly serving "home cooked" meals" so I thought I'd give it another try and booked a table for Sunday lunch for the family. I have to say the new menu is a complete turn around from the previous one, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals (including the mother in law, whom is exceptionally difficult to please as she has over 30 years experience in catering!). I'm glad I gave the food another chance and I would definitely recommend to others.
me and my family just tried to have sunday lunch at the horseshoe, after a 30 minute wait we asked for a jug of iced water while we were waiting in the sun, this was refused, it was then that we saw 2 chefs in the pub garden having a break, so obviously weren't cooking our lunch, we were then told that our order hadn't gone to the kitchen and we were now at the end of a queue, on asking for a refund so we could go elsewhwere we were met with hostility and rudeness, it was apparently not their fault so were told to get out and complain if we didn't like it. no attempt at an apology or recompence was made and we even had trouble getting a full refund on food that we hadn't had!! never again will i set foot in a lovely pub that i have fond childhood memories of. I dont think i have ever met with such rude and abusive staff.
Very poor standard of food, staff surly at best no customer handling skills, food a joke. Stick with burgers, chips meal even kitchen staff of that standard can't balls that up! Staff quote(the vegi burgers are disgusting)
Went to the horseshoe pub on the common for a meal, food was terrible and kids were running riot.Never again
We have used this Pub Restaurant twice since Gordon took it over. The first time was for a very good value lunch and the second time when we held a family buffet there. In each case the service, quality of the food and the value was first class. We will certainly visit again when we are in the area.
Please note:- The Horseshoe is now under new management and gordon , julie & team will be happy see you all and ensure that this is now A great place for the kids and the food is of top quality.
Have used The Horseshoe on many occasions over the last 5 years. Though lately the service and attitude of the staff has gone vastly down hill. Went for a meal with my partner and his parents one evening and they forgot one of the meals and have met some friends at lunch time during the week. Was told would be a 20 minute wait for a sandwich, over 45 Min's later, still no sandwich and when we asked at the bar, the member of staff said " I told her it was over 30 min wait" When she was corrected and told she had actually said 20 and it is now going on for an hour - there was no apology, just a comment that "it hasn't been an hour". Other friends have also commented on the rudeness of staff at The Horseshoe too. What has happened to customer service?
Looking for somewhere for Saturday lunch near Kingswood we spotted The Horseshoe on the Internet. The reviews were mixed but we decided to give it a go and were very pleased. The food was good a decent choice and very good value for money. I
would definitely recommend
lovely pub with polite helpful staff .
food here is lovely and a very wide range of choice, very relaxed pub and welcoming to families.
they have a lovely garden with a good fenced in bright play area for the children and if you don't want to drive you can walk there as it is located along the cycle track .
thanks from the witches of the wood
what the hell is going on with the food in this place??
we ordered 2 roast dinners and a child's meal.
they brought 3 plates out the child's meal, and 2 plates of meat and potatoes, the waitress said they will bring the veg out shortly.
so were waiting....5 Min's later still no veg! i go to the bar and ask the barmaid politely whats going on with the veg?
she grunts turns her back on me and storms off into the kitchen.
we are then left waiting for a further 10mins or so until finally our veg was brought out and placed on the table with no explanation to what happened.
our meat and potatoes were cold and the gravy formed a skin by the time the veg had arrived.
and were expected to pay good money for this!
Visited this pub for the first ever time over the bank holiday whilst out with the family for a leisurely bike ride.
The pub has just been refurbished and the food was great. Everyone seemed more than friendly with a great atmosphere.
The kids loved the play area which was fenced off to keep them safe. Great pub to visit with the family on a sunny day out.
It could be a really nice pub. The food is amazing...a very good few chefs and the pints are perfet...but, the locals are intimidating in the day, if you sit anywhere near them, expect a long cold stare. At night, it is basically a youth club for the just old enoughs to drink. The manager does seem to be sorting this out though. The majority of the bar staff are nice, but some don't give you the time of day, even if you are ordering food.
It's a nice pub, with a good manager, but it's full of the wrong people, but that has alot to do with it's situation.
