This elegant homely restaurant is perfect for any occasion.The VenueThe Living Room is designed, as its name would suggest, to be homely, comfortable and warm and it certainly achieves this. The bar is to the left and there is an old-fashioned desk directly in front of you, this is where the staff check your reservations.
It is set over two floors, one floor is a mezzanine level and this is only open during busy nights. From here, you overlook the bar and restaurant.
They have a piano player on some nights during the week which adds to the laidback atmosphere. Booths are arranged around the edges and tables in the centre and interesting artwork is scattered around the walls.
The PeopleThe atmosphere at the Living Room is warm and cosy. Staff are friendly and very knowledgeable about the dishes and wines on the menu, and all are eager to help. This is the perfect restaurant for romantic evenings out, dining with friends and business dinners.
The FoodThe menu at first glance can appear limited however the chefs across the chain ensure it is constantly changing so on future visits there is always something new to try. The food is also designed to be homely and portions are generous.
Some of the homely dishes available are Welsh rarebit (£2.95), steak, ale and mushroom pie and cod and chips with mushy peas. Starters range from £3.95 to £9.50 or you can opt for three dishes of breads and small plates to share for £10.50.
Main courses go from £8.95 to £20.95 and sides are from £1.95 to £3.75. Desserts are between £4.65 and £10.95 for a dessert to share. A children’s menu is also available for £6 for two courses or £7.50 for three courses.
The DrinkThe wine list has an excellent selection and if you are not sure the staff are always on hand to help. Choices include Viognier, Chablis, Cabernet Sauvignons and Chateau Musar; their wines come from all over the world even some places you wouldn’t expect like the Lebanon.
House wine is £12.95 and prices go up to £95.Cocktails are on the menu from £5.95 and there are a range of bottled beers.
