Used to think this bar was quite cool, if a little pretentious. However the manager has a tendancy of drinking at the bar and getting quite aggressive. Last night my friend accidentally assumed he was serving people, and whilst in the queue for drinks pointed at me to indicate I was waiting for a drink - He then got completeley in her face and shouted 'you don't f**king tell me what to do in my own f**king bar, who do you think you re! Who do you think you are!' then stormed off. She ran out of the bar crying and went home, leaving all of her things in the bar. All in all I would therefore say it does not ave the best customer service. (though the other barman was nice, and seemed to be very embarrased by his boss's behaviour.)
the most consistently good bar in bristol, just the right size to create a good atmosphere, with brilliant djs playing mainly funk and soul.
had my 30th birthday in the private room upstairs a couple of weeks ago and it was lovely - brilliant music from the dj downstairs and very smiley friendly bar staff. It really does have a special atmosphere, probably because its quite small and because of the candles and the lighting too. Along with Goldbrick House, Definitely my favourite bar in Bristol!
starting going here again recently after a couple of years away and very pleased to report that this place still has the best atmosphere on a Saturday night than anywhere ive ever been in Bristol - largely down to the DJ who tend to play classic soul, funk etc, and bar staff who add to the whole feel good vibe by having a good time themselves whilst making some bloody great drinks! good times! just dont dance on the tables because they tip over!
The Park is by far the best bar in town, the staff are friendly, the drinks are not re-mortgage the house to go out high more local pub prices.
They have the best Music in town without doubt, i saw a DJ there a few weeks ago called Leon who played a mix of vintage, soul, funk, rare groove, ska, acid jazz and he was superb.
Check out this place
I've been going to this bar for about 5 years now and every year a new bar team comes in and the mood changes. Over these years the level of service has slowly declined much to my disappointment. So much so I stopped being a regular. I went in last saturday to find that they've reached a real low point. The experienced bar staff have gone and have been replaced by jumped up kids who think that because the bar is renowned that they are too. This is definitely not the case.
I asked for a simple caiprinha which was made by some scruffy blonde kid with lime juice and gomme. Considering its meant to have fresh lime wedges muddled with demerara sugar, it wasn't the best start to the night.
The prices are a little inflated considering its location and the atmosphere is dark and moody because of its size.
Avoid if you like a descent made cocktail! Try hotel du vin instead (although its a bit of a walk)
