I went to the White lion on Friday 6th of feb to watch the opening game of the 6 nations, the pub was very busy with a great atmosphere, service and food were excellent, and all the staff were very attentive .
Well done for a great night, recommend to anyone.

What a disappointment this is the third time we have taken our family here. The first time was nice the food was good and the service OK on the second visit my husbands lasagne was cold so while the rest of us ate our meal my husband had to wait while his food was 'microwaved!!' . we said we would never go again but our daughter was home from Guildford for the weekend and it's convenient for us we visited again so how very frustrating when my daughters steak and ale pie was stone cold in the middle no apology we were told it was the last pie they could microwave it or she would have to choose something else!!! This local pub is a complete disappointment and I would certainly not recommend to anyone.

An absolute hole. Very clicky and a very dirty feel to it.

We visited The White Lion for lunch last Monday 14:00hrs 21.07.2014.As we entered I noticed a placard advertising hand pulled cider thereby leading me to think they may have some ciders out of usual run of the mill, first disappointment just your usual draught Strongbow and Blackthorn.
We selected meals of Chicken and Mushroom pie, mash and seasonal vegetables also Steak and Ale pie again with mash and season vegetables,£6.95 and £7.95.
Considering the place was not busy we had a reasonable wait something which is usually good as it reflects in the meal, second disappointment.
The meals arrived with nice crusted bought in pies, mash, peas and sweetcorn.
On asking about the seasonal vegetables the waiter said yes sorry it's not that good is it and went to talk to the chef.He then returned with a dish of carrots and a comment about the chef forgot.I assume if we had not mentioned the seasonal vegetables we would have got nothing else.I can only assume for this chef seasonal vegetables are anything that comes in tin so not a lot of thought or action necessary.
Although the gentleman who served us was friendly other staff appeared uninterested happy to chat especially while I waited to return my partners drink which was served in a lipstick smeared glass. No apology just a change and a comment about I hope this one is better.
I read a recent review about a refurbishment and the emphasis on food but for me decor was nothing other than seen in any theme pub these days and food would not warrent a return.

The White Lion is in a fantastic location, food actually not bad for the price. The ambience and customer service shocking, I feel the attitude of the Management set the tone for the pub (service is an effort, politeness non-existent). This could be a cracking pub, it gets a lot of through traffic because of it's location, perhaps they feel they don't need to make an effort. I am 55 now and have been visiting this pub sitting in the garden since I was a small girl, can honestly say probably won't visit again.
