We chose this venue for my step-daughter's 21st celebratory meal on 7 June.
The service was absolutely shocking and the food was average.
Overall it was ridiculously expensive for a second rate venue and 'canteen' meal.
I will not be going back and I certainly will not be recommending to anyone!
Shame, because it promised so much, but delivered little.
Lunch with the girls 6th June 2014. How disappointing. Starter was very good. Roast beef! I like my beef rare but this was cold & looked raw. Returned it, it then came back 2 minutes later very well done. Yorkshire pudding was cold, 2 baby carrots & half a cauliflower floret. The Toilets need a makeover. Staff were friendly & I could not complain about the service. Can't help feeling Brasserie Blanc is just trading on the name. Will not bother going again.
Visited for Sunday lunch on 6/4/14. First course was excellent. Beef roast was hugely disappointing. Beef was so very rare that it had to be sent back. Hard, cold Yorkshire pudding. One sprig of cauliflower. Would rather have saved my £25 and that of my friends, and cooked a meal at home of a much better standard. The loos need sprucing up as well. Staff were excellent. Won't rush back.
Good evening, Today I had lunch in this resturant, with my husband, daughter and her two children. The staff were very offhand almost rude! My tomato salad which I was really looking forward to was quite the worst I have ever tasted. This is a dish which Raymond Blanc is so proud of. The rest of our food was second rate, not what I had expected. You and your staff are degrading the name of Raymond Blanc and that is such a shame. Oh yes the toilet door handle was broken too!
I took my daughter to lunch here today. My salad Nicoise was definitely not freshly made. The lettuce was brown around the edges. The two half potatoes were soggy and spongey. The two green beans were flaccid. The boiled agg was crumbly. It looked like left-overs scrapped on top of a bed of old lettuce, topped by a couple of mean mackerel fillets that were possibly newly grilled. A couple of thin strips of anchovy were hidding inside the mixture. The setting is very attractive and the staff were nice but I won't be going back.
Have been to this Restaurant many many times. The Food is excellent Prices reasonable. The Staff always give a good reception and make you feel welcome. Having read some of the other reviews all I will say is some people will complain about anything and everything. My last visit there was 12th June 2012 which to me and my guests was a very Special occaison. Reception, service, choice on the menu was excellent and very enjoyable. Our waitress did an excellent job. As I have said I have been there many times both in parties and on my own and I shall continue.
Whether you just want a quick lunch or a special occasion, this is the place to go.
The prices are realistic, the food exceptional and the service fantastic and you are always made to feel welcome.
Excellent Excellent Excellent 5 star!
Arrived on a Monday evening at 5:30 after a long day x-mas shopping & prior to going to the theatre.
Was a little aprehensive as there was only a few customers inside at the time & having never been before, thought it may have felt a little 'dead'.
However, as a family party of 6, we were soon sat down & chatting.
There was no rushing us, hors de ouvres were brought to the table whilst we chose our drinks & food. The waitress was very attentive at all times without being in our faces & was extremely helpful with wine ordering & help with what dishes came with what sides etc.
All of us thoroughly enjoyed all the food that was brought to the table. The wine was very good also.
As a family, none of us are connoseuirs. However, we do know when we've been traeted well & have eaten good food & enjoyed the drinks we were having.
My youngest daughter is very well travelled & eats in many fine restaurants all over the world. She was the least impressed with the food but still enjoyed herself & wouldn't hesitate to go there again, as with all of us.
I would like to try out the lunch menu next time I'm in Bristol with my wife, who also very much enjoyed the evening.
As for the worry about the lack of people Vs the atmosphere, I needen't have! the ambiance of the restaurant is pleasing & the surroundings put me in a quite tranquill frame of being.
On the whole, a lovely experience.
We had lunch at Brasserie Blanc and it was a very pleasant experience. The food was very good, service pleasant, attentive and professional. All that you would expect from a "proper" restaurant. Inside The Friary Building the ambiance is peaceful and relaxing. We would go again and recommend to others.
Went a couple of weeks ago for a meal the reception when we arrived was very poor, the food was mediocre except for the salmon fishcake which was very salty and unedible. when we complained we were asked if we had added salt to it we replied no and was told that the french people liked a lot of salt on there food. We are not French and dont expect to eat food that is full of salt in these times. We were given a free dessert but it was not up to expectations. I would have thought we would have been offered a replacement main course but alas no. When we left the restaurant we decided that the experience would not be repeated and no way would we ever go back , highly dissapointed.

Had no expectations when we arrived as we hadn't read any reviews. We were rushed through our meal. Three courses and wine finished in 45 mns. The courses were quite small so didn't take too long to eat but no sooner had we put down our cutlery than the plates were whipped away and the next course presented. The onion tart was very good as were the chocolate dessert but the seafood tagliatelle had no taste at all - no sauce or juices and a couple of mussels, shrimps and squid or octopus - very disappointing.
I visited Brasserie Blanc last week for the first time for lunch.
It was superb; beautifully cooked food, nicely and efficiently presented and served and excellent value for money.
The included glass of wine was good too. I shall certainly be going again.
Have been twice on both occasions we had excellent service, very friendly and proffesional staff.
They had obvious knowledge about the food and about French culture as I was eating there with a French national, who loved it.Food tastes wonderful, the souffle is just perfect!
I would be giving 5 stars except that as a vegetarian I was limited in choice on the menu and my portions were small, although my partners meat dishes were adequate (on second visit we knew and so for me ordered extra sides of salad and their delicious chips)
Lovely building too, we have asked to sit upstairs both times to take in the atmosphere.
A wonderful conversion and a brilliant asset to the Bristol Eating Scene which was very sadly lacking in anywhere to have a good meal.
The use of the galleried area is very clever and gives a wonderfully intimate feel to a table for two.
I had booked a table for 12.30 on Saturday and we were shown to our table very promptly having been asked whether we were happy to go upstairs. Our starters were cheese souffle and mussels.
My souffle was perfection and had the right amount of leaves etc with it. Our main courses were duck breast and moules et frite.
Yes, they were the lovely little chips which I always enjoy in France and my colleague was thrilled with her duck breast. We decided to have the flambeed baked alaska(for 2) and the waiter dealing with this clearly enjoyed his task and was great fun.
We both loved the experience and were interested to eat there having been to the Manoir a few times. We were not disappointed and I hope to repeat the visit very soon. CH
Nicely decorated and atmospheric but the food and service were poor. As soon as we arrived we were told that our table was ready and we were almost being forced to be seated we resisted and orderd some drinks whilst looking at the menu.
When our drinks arrived the cocktails were overfilled with ice and water dripped onto the ladies dresses. The wine order was messed up, but that wasn't too bad, our waitress did offer to change my white wine for the one I had ordered but I declined. Our waitress was charming but had too many tables to serve. We had some "dips" with bread before the first courses.
The balsamic reduction was over reduced and tasted slightly burnt, the saffron mayonnaise was under saffroned and over galicked but the tapenade was pleasingly coarse and tasty. My Gravadlax was flabby and non-descript and the tarragon or whatever it was in the creme fraiche dressing was old and very tired. The duck took a while to come, I wouldn't have minded - you can't rush good food.
Sadly it was probably ready to serve 10-15 minutes before it arrived in a sadly shriveled state. I had asked for it to be medium-rare but, under the lights, it had cooked out to barely pink. The sauce was crude, it tasted like marmalade with no real meaty stock/jus flavour coming through at all. I didn't want to create a fuss as it was a special meal -if I had been on my own I would have sent it back.
The turnip potato stack which, although tough and crusty on the top had better survived its second cooking under the lights, and didn't taste too bad.Whilst we eating, a waiter, not the one who was serving, took away one of the three water jugs on our table to use on another table, muttering something about if we didn't mind! Very strange and a first for me. I tried some of the cheese that one of my mates had ordered it tasted very good and those little morsels were the highlight.
Although they refunded me the cost of the duck the damage was
Lovely building, nice atmosphere. The conversion has been beautifully done, and I was really looking forward to our New Year's lunch together.Nearly two hours later we had just finished. The service, though frindly, was VERY slow, and when we asked for an extra dish it took half an hour to come, and the moment was lost.
I had the chicken livers: these were rather crudely prepared, and I had to swap dishes with my husband, who was not thrilled with them either. Some of the lettuce was brown and wilted. My husband loved his main course - the pork - really tender, and a good sized portion. The beans were very tasty too.
Sadly, I had the pumpkin risotto; a portion of puddingy rice floating in butter, with 5 chunks of pumpkin placed around the edge. Tasted OK, but I was expecting more from R Blanc. The dessert was fabulous - we both had the sorbet, but the coffee was weak and tasteless.Better value for the same amount of money are:5 The Beach, ClevedonThe french restaurant on Pulteney Bridge, BathJacks (Bristol and Portishead)The Lockhouse, Portishead Marina
