The ViewBristol Review
Flavourz is a self-service buffet offering a wide range of dishes and desserts for one set price. And it's in the heart of Bristol.
The Venue
Located close to the Hippodrome and on the street in front of Colston Hall, Flavourz really is smack bang in the centre of Bristol. The restaurant is large and basic. Apart from painted murals on the walls it's fairly sparse and place settings are minimal.
The buffet area is at the back, to the left of the restaurant, with chefs making freshly cooked dishes while you watch them behind the counter. The rest of Flavourz is made up of dining areas and there is a bar situated on both ground and first floor.
The People
When you arrive you're greeted by front of house staff who show you to your table and take your drinks order. Drinks are then brought to the table.
It's generally busy and the place can be fairly noisy. Chart music is played in the background and there is definitely a 'party' mood about this restaurant. Because of its proximity to Bristol's bars and clubs partygoers often head here for pre-booze nosh.
The style of the restaurant is an 'all you can eat' buffet featuring a wide range of dishes. Go up to the counter, grab a plate, pile it high and carry back to your table to eat. When your plate is empty, waiting staff will take it away. If you want more food, simply go back up and grab another plate to fill.
The staff are friendly and attentive and do their best to keep things ticking over, but expect to wait a while during busy periods for plates to be cleared away.
The Food
It's pretty good standard for a buffet and the selection is huge. Dishes do vary, but expect Chinese, Indian, Mexican and salads. There are starters, with usually one soup, available at the buffet to kick off your meal.
Main meals include chicken tikka masala, sweet and sour pork, chilli con carne, fajitas, pasta, a salad bar and freshly made stir-fries. Dishes are replenished throughout the service and everything is flavoursome and doesn't taste like it's been sitting on a hot plate for days.
An evening main meal buffet will set you back £11.95 from Sunday to Wednesday and £13.95 from Thursday to Saturday. This great value price also includes unlimited desserts.
And the desserts are the stars of the show so make sure you leave enough room. Here you will find several cakes, puddings and cheesecakes, a selection of fresh fruit, a chocolate fountain and an ice cream machine, complete with pick 'n' mix sweets and sauces for you to make your own ice cream sundae.
The Drink
Drinks are fairly priced and house wine is available at a very reasonable £2.85 per small glass or £10.95 a bottle. There is also around a dozen cocktails and everything is less than a fiver so if you fancy something a bit different it won't break the bank.
Flavourz stocks all the main spirits and bottled beers as well as branded soft drinks and juice. A regular fizzy drink is £2.15 and juice is £2.50.
The Last Word
Flavourz may not be the classiest restaurant in Bristol - the surroundings are basic and you may have a fair wait for a drink (or even a table at busy times) - but this is the place to come if you fancy a huge pile of good food at a great price.
