The Hillgrove Porter Stores is a real ale pub with a friendly atmosphere. As well as specialising in beers from smaller breweries they also offer an extensive range of wines and spirits plus a food menu of traditional pub grub.

Once a CAMRA pub of the year this used to be one of our favourite haunts: candlelit, friendly and cosy. The beers are still good but the candles are gone, the fire no longer lit, the furniture gets shabbier by the day and the staff are surly. All you can hear is the blare of the blender from the kitchen. On a steep decline with fewer customers every time we visit.

Went in on a sunday for some food just before christmas.

It was a little how we would say "Crusty" with drunk noveaux punks with cats on leads and drinking off licence gin. Very rude, stealing our drinks, apparantly the landlord was in the pub but he did nothing to stop us being intimidated.

Not for us again I'm afraid, too much essence of dog.
