Ate here last night with 5 friends, and it was brilliant. Service was good, attentive but not obtrusive, and I didn't find the tables too close together as in some reviews but perhaps thats because we were a slightly larger party. I started with crispy fried squid, delicious. The star was the wild black bream fillet though (catch of the day) I think it was the best fish I have ever eaten. Hence the review! Completely delicious. Good side dishes (buttered kale, fennel gratin, chips, although they were small portions for the prices). Finished with heavenly chocolate pudding with cream. All in all a truly excellent dinner. Rather expensive but we didn't feel ripped off as it was worth it.
Lovely fish, but the extras were disappointing and poorly presented - the Roosevelt potatoes at £3.50 are simply 3 boiled potatoes plonked on a dish, same for the kale. I did feel a bit ripped off on the vegetable front. Maybe I'll just have fish next time. Also, the tables are VERY close together. My seat was actually bumped forwards by a waitress walking past, and it felt rude not to laugh at the jokes the man next to us was telling his date, we were almost on their table. They really do cram you in. There's no music either, and more of a marketplace ambience than I would like.
Have eaten here twice for dinner and have been impressed with the quality and taste both times, as well as the wine menu.
Only issue is the tables are very close together, which is a usual restaurant trick of trying to get as many bums on chairs as possible but as in most cases, this place forgets what the dining experience is like for customers when you have people right on top of you.
Really liked the amount of British fish on offer, and can highly recommend the fruits de mer platter, truly divine.
I went to the fishmonger to the side of the restaurant and being a fish lover I was pleasantly surprised with the great selection of fresh fish.
I bought some red gurnard, the gentleman filleted it for me. I took it home and pan fried it in a little butter, seasoned with salt and pepper and served on a rocket salad with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on top - amazing!
Going to be a regular customer of this place!
Lunch at RockFish on Saturday with family which was excellent, a real buzz in the place and they were fantastic with the kids. We had the RockFish bouillabaisse which was really tasty and seafood linguine (not sure if it was called that) but packed with mussels, cockles, monkfish, clams, not sure I could name the rest of the fish but it was delicious. My veggie daughter had a lovely house salad and the other one had fish and chips with the most gorgeous tartare sauce. This could become a regular, a great place for lunch. Thanks for bringing it to Bristol!
Actually going there tonight so really wanted to jump in first and say how much I am looking forward to sampling the food from the exciting & extensive menu...
