The ViewBristol Review
Typical Harvester-style restaurant and pub, serving good yet average food, in a relaxed and informal environment. The VenueLocated in the Frenchay area of Bristol, just past the hospital, the Snuff Mill Harvester at first glance looks like any other Harvester, with its large dining area and pub-style bar. That's until you notice the huge water feature smack bang in the middle of the restaurant, complete with koi carp. Diners can watch the fish while they dine, which is certainly a novel way of keeping children entertained.
The PeopleLike most restaurants in this chain, the atmosphere at the Snuff Mill Harvester is relaxed and informal. It always seems busy and popular, with a wide range of clientele ranging from couples young and not so young, and lots of families.
Children are very welcome and well catered for. The staff are generally attentive, although during busy times you may have to wait a while to get served as there does not seem to be enough of them.
The FoodOne of the features of eating in a Harvester is the salad cart. Starters are available, but most people opt to raid the salad cart which comes included in the price of a main meal. Help yourself to as much salad as you like, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pasta salad, pineapple, raisons, a range of dressings and bread rolls are some of the things available.
The main dishes tend to be flame grilled chicken or meat, served with fries and peas or salad. Some pasta, vegetarian and fish dishes are available now too, as are fajitas, and a roast dinner on a Sunday.
The Harvester Platters, which are typically for two people, contain a range of items and are also popular. The Combine Harvester comes with sausages, roast chicken, fries, onion rings, corn on the cob and dips.
Main meals range from around £7 to £12 for a mixed grill, and this includes the salad. The food is basic, tasty and simple. It tastes like good quality home cooked food.
A wide range of desserts are available, from huge ice cream sundaes, to profiteroles and cakes served with cream. These are really great value and although rather sickly sweet, are reminiscent of childhood ice creams and puddings. Expect to pay around £3 to £4 for a dessert.
The DrinkAs the Snuff Mill Harvester is based around a pub, the drinks selection is good. A range of mid-priced white, red and rose wines are available, as is draught and bottled beer, spirits and soft drinks.
A range of fresh fruit juices is also available, as is a seasonal 'special' juice. Drinks are very reasonably priced – expect to pay what you would in a pub.
The Last WordSnuff Mill Harvester is nice for an informal, relaxed meal. The food is good, it’s reasonably priced and value for money. If you get there before 6.30pm on a weekday, you get a third off most menu prices, so this is definitely something to look out for.
