Six of us had lunch at the rummer on saturday and it was just great! the food was wonderful, with an imaginative menu to suit everybody. staff were pleasant and efficent. what we saw of the building ( the oldest licenced premises in bristol) has been thoughtfully restored and decorated. I wouldn't hesitate to eat there again (my wife has said she will definitely go there for lunch next time she is in bristol), and I look forward to trying the evening menu. the place deserves to be much busier than it was on saturday.

We dropped into The Rummer during the day, and liked the feel of the place, so booked a table for the evening. It was a Thursday night, and it was fairly busy. My husband is a bit of a wine buff, and he thought the wine list was unusual and very well chosen. He opted for a bottle of red Lebanese wine, which was to be served with them main course. I had scallops and pig cheek to start, with the recommended cocktail to accompany it. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the flavours mingled so well with the pig cheek. For main course we both opted for the venison. The dish looked amazing when it was brought out, and again, the chef’s ability could not be questioned. I finished the meal with a selection of local cheeses, and my husband with a brownie. I cook lots of brownies at home, so would have been very critical if it was not so good. They also had some strange flavoured ice creams, which looked tempting, but I was not brave enough.

We found ourselves eating in the Rummer last night having initially just gone out for drinks there. We both came away delighted we had changed our plans! The bar itself is a comfortable space, with a great selection available and attentive staff in front of a centrepiece of the open fire, but the meal in the cellar restaurant was exceptional, a cosy table that also felt exclusive, hidden beneath St Nick's market; staff knowledgeable and attentive without being at all intrusive and above all wonderful food and wine! We will definitely be making a return visit!

Lovely restaurant. My partner and I have been coming here for sometime and we really enjoy it, great food and friendly service.
