Event Information

The Big Green Gathering is a 5 day camping event. Onsite we provide the basic facilities you will need to have a comfortable 5 day stay and more besides.

On this page you will find an overview of all the important things you need to know to prepare for and enjoy your time at The Big Green Gathering. For more detailed information you can visit the main Big Green Gathering website at
www.big-green-gathering.com.
Day after day, week after week and year and year, we see increasing evidence that our planet is in peril.
Food and Drink

Food Supplies

This year our Food & Farming section will host a Farm Shop allowing visitors to access basic raw ingredients onsite. In addition we will have food outlets all around site.

That said, please do be responsible and bring what you need for the Gathering. We have a strict no re-entry policy for vehicles so you will not be able to drive to the shop. There is a bus service to Cheddar for shoppers running from Thursday to Sunday.

Alcohol

You may bring alcohol onsite for personal consumption but excess quantities will be confiscated. Please remember this is a family gathering.
Getting to the Site
We recommend that people travelling to the site by public transport catch the train to Weston-Super-Mare and catch the special Big Red Bus service to the Big Green Gathering site.

The Big Red Bus

There will be a Cheddar shuttle bus for shoppers from the Big Red Bus Marquee on site from 10am to 6pm. This service will be approximately hourly subject to demand. Fare is £2 each way.

Cheddar Shuttle

The Cheddar Shuttle shopping buses will operate Thursday to Sunday from the bus station on site, starting at 9.30am and running approximately hourly until 6pm (last afternoon run out of Cheddar). Later in the evening, on Saturday and Sunday only, the 9.30pm late Park-and-Ride bus will stop in Cheddar both on the way down to the car park and also on the way back up to the site. Fare is £2 each way.
Parking Arrangements
There is a car park available on the event site for Day Ticket Holders which we will be providing free of charge, however, there are limited spaces and parking will be on a first come first serve basis.
An overflow car park will be available at Winchester Farm, Cheddar at a price of £5 per car, from here there will be a park and ride shuttle bus available.

Parking restrictions on roads around the site will be strictly enforced.

Things to Note

Low Impact

Because of the protected geological and archaeological features of the site, we are not permitted to dig, disturb or contaminate the soil. This affects the way we deal with waste water, toilets, and fires.

Water

Piped drinking water is available from standpipes throughout the site. Take your container to the tap to collect water—don’t take your washing or washing-up to the tap, and always be sure to turn off the tap after use.

Toilets

Due to the sensitive nature of the site we are not permitted to dig drainage ditches, or use any compost toilets which could allow leaching of waste into groundwater. So you will still mainly see standard polyjohn toilet units on site.

Showers

There will be showers and saunas in Canyon Field, Healing Field and the Green Access and Mobility Area (GAMA).

Fires, Gas and Digging

Fires burned on the ground impact heavily on the environment. This is why our licence stipulates that fires must be OFF THE GROUND, in braziers.

Recycling and Litter

Recycling, as ever, is energetically supported at the Big Green Gathering. Separate bins are provided for different kinds of waste. Please respect our site by leaving it at least as clean as you found it and help protect the environment and the wildlife.

Health and Safety

We have a full range of medical and welfare services at the Gathering, including fully qualified medical herbalists and homeopaths. The Southwest Ambulance Service will be on site, complete with paramedics working alongside the Red Cross.
