VV Brown is one of the headline acts at the 2009 Bristol Harbour Festival. There's also street theatre, circus acts, contemporary dance, children's games and food markets, and the BBC heading down with their new show - Bang Goes The Theory.
Music Highlights
The harbourside will be transformed into a mini-music festival with no less than seven stages.
The Bristol Harbour Festival opens in diva-like style with soul singer Candi Staton who be performing on the main Amphitheatre Stage. On Saturday, it's the modern-day diva VV Brown's turn to take the headline slot and the festival closes with some good drum and bass from Transglobal Underground.
Pubs and Clubs
Even if you don't make it down to the Amphitheatre, there's plenty of other acts on the seven stages, from jazz, funk and folk, or even unsigned talent on the Remix stage. Pubs and clubs also host plenty of live acts during the Bristol Harbour Festival, with special events at Thekla and the Grain Barge.
Acrobatics
Street artists will be taking over the city with the return of Cirque Bijou. These daredevils have created displays for the likes of Take That and they mix up aerial acrobatics and slapstick comedy. There's also performances from the Black Eagles who will show off their acrobatic skills to the beat of an African soundtrack.
Children Activities
Even though most of the events at the Bristol Harbour Festival are family-friendly, the organisers have created a section just for children at Queen Square. Kids can learn circus skills, take part in games or act activities or simply get their faces painted.
Bang Goes The Theory
One of the highlights of the festival will be BBC One's roadshow of the new program Bang Goes The Theory. The presenters are heading down to Mud Dock, where they'll be throughout the weekend, to conduct science experiments, some of which you can get involved with.
