One star because I can't give zero. Don't eat here. Pretentious overpriced rubbish. £6.50 for three little scoops of melon and a 1cm cube of feta cheese. They are just screwing money out of people. Don't believe the pretentions of being a gastro-pub cum fine dining, it is just cheap rubbish sold with a massive mark up. Eat here at your peril. Worst restaurant I have been to in Bristol.

We visited this pub while on a short break to Bristol. A real gem of a find. The food was beautifully prepared, wonderfully presented and absolutely delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the food being offered. We enjoyed a lovely evening in friendly surroundings. The food is not cheap but the service and standard of food is well worth the money. We have no hesitation in recommending this pub and restaurant.

Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! Unfortunately, a friend chose this place for her birthday do. If we had come to this place any other time we would have turned right around and left. As we drank our £4.15 beers, we saw at least 2 groups of people walk in, look at the menu and leave - one of them got to the bar and then left. The group that made it to the bar probably found out that they charge you 50p for using a card - not a credit card, mind you - a debit card, which IS CASH. Almost everyone in our group ordered chips because that was the one item that wasn't ridiculously over-priced. And they didn't even bring sauces out. If this place is so posh and upper crust, I expect the chef's own mayonnaise or some other interesting sauce, but no. We ordered the £7.50 Ploughman's - the cheese one, because to have a slice of ham is £8.50. The Ploughman's was basic and small - nothing special and nothing that justifies the extra money. We were still hungry after, so we ordered chips. I'm willing to pay a lot of money for an exceptional meal and have done on many occasions. This is the kind of a--hole restaurant where they count on people not objecting to being royally screwed. It's a beautiful location and the waitstaff are very nice, but that's not enough to keep me from advising that you run away!

Imaginative menu, outstanding meal, good wines and great service all added up to the best meal we've had in the UK in a very long time.

Lobster ravioli with vanilla was a taste treat, the scallops with chap was mouth-watering. Excellent prosecco, fruity and refreshing. My husband's salmon tasted as if it had been caught the minute before cooking. Even the bread and butter were outstanding!

The waitress we had was exceptional, she told us the provenance of all our food (the salmon was from the Green Forest). Even though a 10 per cent service charge was added to the bill (which seems a little mean) we added another 10 on top. And even at that, our bill was more reasonable than many pub dinners we've had at a far inferior quality.

The attention to detail made it the perfect meal.

The Pump House is so impressive, the staff are always delightful here and the food is devine. I like the over all look of the pub and the fact is has a airy feel to it. A must if you are in the area.
