The ViewBristol Review
This Late Night London bar and club is one of the less pretentious nightspots of Covent Garden. Great if you want to spend the evening in one place and have food, drink and dancing all at your fingertips. The VenueKeep your eyes peeled as The Langley is easy to miss. You won’t forget the address though as it’s conveniently located a stones throw from Covent Garden tube on Langley Street. From the small doorway you’d never expect such a large venue, but persevere and head on down into the basement to see for yourself. Just be wary that you might not get a mobile phone signal, which can be awkward if you’re meeting people.
There are two separate areas – the main dancefloor is large but there’s nowhere to sit, so head on in for a boogy before moving on to the large bar area to rest weary feet. There are plenty of booths and seating but they fill up quickly so be sure to get there early to claim the seats. The girls toilets are a great example of how to get it right – nice lighting, plenty of stalls and a make-up area with full-length mirrors and seats so you can make yourself beautiful before heading back out to the action.
The AtmosphereThe atmosphere changes as the night wears on. Get there early evening and you’ll find local office workers blowing off steam with a quick post-work drink. As the evening wears on, the music starts to pump and the whole air of the bar turns more dancey as it hots up with a club vibe. As the drinks flow, people dance and the laughter and chatter rises. The atmosphere is one of people having fun without making it into a heavy club night – great for an impromptu night of drinking and dancing when you just thought you’d go out for one.
The MusicLike with all the Late Night London bars and clubs, The Langley plays commercial tunes – whether it be pop, RnB or house. Guest DJs play on certain nights – such as Big Brother’s Mikey – showing off their skills on the decks. Don’t expect any tunes for the serious music fan, just decent popular songs that are what they are.
The DrinkPrices are competitive with central London’s other bars and clubs. Late Night London are good for providing lower-cost nights out and The Langley is no exception. They have a daily Happy Hour, which is especially great for cocktails, they also do special deals on food and drinks. If you get there early enough you can bag a table with a round of cut-price drinks and some barfood to kick-start the night.
The Last WordThe Langley isn’t a bar that takes itself very seriously. Instead, it’s a good place to go if you want a hassle-free night of drinking and dancing the night away.
