I went to The Retreat around 11.30 pm last night. I asked for a pint of Stella. I was told there was no draught beer but I could have two bottles in a glass for the same price as pint which I think was around 3.40. When I went to get a second drink there was a different barman on and I was charged per bottle so it worked out at 6.60. When I queried it with him he checked with the first barman and I presume also the owner, a shaved headed chap at the end of the bar, and came back and told me I had 'got a bargain' the first time. I don't consider 3.40 to be a bargain for a pint when you can get one for under 3.00 in most bars in Bristol. Certainly 6.60 for a pint of hot larger, bottles obviously weren't in a fridge, was no 'bargain'.
This pub also has a banner on the front stating now open till 2AM on Sundays. Last night the music was off and house lights on by 12.15 so preumably if you wanted another drink you would have had to go across the street and pay into Flamingos, also owned by the owners of The Retreat, and probably pay through the nose for drink there as well.
Friendly, modern pub, I went in a few nights had, karaoke one night and a quiz night. The weekend was very busy and cheap drinks £1 a drink on sunday.. Amazing. Think they also had a student night too.
went over to the club over the road to complete my night.. Well recommend it.
