I was astonished to read the last review!
I stumbled accross this oasis whilst out house hunting with a girl friend.
We were amazed at the fabulous interior, menu, and standard of food.
The bar man was extremely hospitable and chatty without being too overbearing. I would have no hesitation in recommending this pub highly as a rare example of a superbly run independant pub!!
Thanks for a top lunch.
I took the family there for Sunday lunch yesterday and I have to say I was very dissapointed with it. The setting is great and the decor is really nice. The menu was good too, but it was obvious right away that they were terribly understaffed and the waitresses looked very stressed and almost close to tears! Needless to say it took ages to take our order and the service throughout was pretty non existent, we had to try and grab their attention on numerous occasions and had long waits in between courses. The starters were OK, nothing special though, and the Pumpkin soup was rather bland. The mains were massively dissapointing. 2 out of the 5 dishes were cold and had to be sent back. They came back 15 minutes later hotter but the portion sizes were strangely a lot smaller. It was good they didn’t just stick it in the microwave but it later became apparent that they were running low on stock. The beef dishes didn’t come with Yorkshire pudding as advertised. We weren’t informed of this and when I noticed halfway through my meal, I asked and they said they had run out! A real shame as the Beef was actually a really nice cut, but the potatoes were very dry. We ordered icecream for our little one and that took 30 minutes to arrive, it doesn’t take long to put 3 scoops on a dish, so no excuse for this I’m afraid. When I got the bill I was expecting them to apologise for the long waits, the lack of Yorkshire and the cold dishes but they didn’t. If I had had the energy I would have made more of a fuss and requested a discount but instead I have just decided to avoid going there again. Maybe it was a one off, but it was obviously very badly managed and considering the prices aren’t that cheap I was expecting a lot more.
