The Canteen is a great meeting spot with a good bunch of staff and most of the time nice cheap food. It’s not part of a chain.. It’s run by the people who run the Harbour side bar. Two places isn't a chain? Why would anyone want Stokes croft to resemble the crack dump it was five to ten years ago.

Bristol is a trendy Nathan Barley city and full of transient toffs and trustafarians but it’s still has its fair share of decent folk trying to do good DIY things. The Canteen and its art studios is one of them. Like him or loathe him George Ferguson has made Bristol popular and brought investment in. . . bla

Amazing place,
Such cheap food considering it is fresh, seasonal, wholesome and local.
Great live music too.
Well recommend it.

Yeah, this place is ok, but i preferred the place derelict. Not tried the food, my partner and son like it enough but that is more a comment on my ability to cook only pasta, and then very badly. The drinks are overpriced, and depending on the time of day it is full of posers, arty posers or drunk arty posers. And worst of all, lets not forget the Cliftonites coming down for a culture trip and a whinge about people selling the Big Issue and their (fricking brilliant) dogs.

Sorry, what happened to Stokes Croft as it was 10 years ago? Now its still grubby but Tesco is imminent and the canteen is part of a chain anyways, so how is it any different.

Reasonable prices and the food is ok. However the customer service is abysmal and if you are looking for lunch and don't have an unlimited lunch break don't go here. Kitchen opens pretty much when they are ready to open and this varies day to day. "Kitchen don't like to take orders before they are open", I asked what time they would open and was told 12.15, I went back at what I thought was 12.15 to be told that the kitchen isn't open it is only 12.12 come back in 3 mins. Guess what happened, yeah we left and had a very nice lunch at Zazus! If you're going to offer lunch surely you should have your kitchen open at 12.00. On another occasion I went and was advised that the kitchen would not open until 12.45, we left at 1pm as the kitchen still wasn't open. Get your staff in earlier to prepare for lunch, it isn't rocket science.

I went for lunch at Canteen and had a very different experience! Service was excellent - the barstaff were friendly and efficient, answering all of my queries with a smile and i felt very welcomed. Myself and mum sat outside on the bustling terrace and our meal came quickly complete with soup and bread and lots of delicious sides. I thought it was great value and have returned many times since!
