One of the best Sunday Roasts I have had in a long time - even better than I have done myself (especially the gravy)! Cosy ambience away from the crowds. The place to go for beer lovers and good pub food.

I've only recently discovered this hidden gem after living locally for years, and I have to say I was delighted by what I found. The cosy pub has a really friendly and warm atmosphere with great staff and a fab range of beers and ales. I can't wait to come back on a sunday to sample their roast dinners (all the food is really well priced for the quality).

What a find! I had noticed the pub was undergoing new management and deduced that it was undergoing refurbishment as i passed it each day to work over the last few months. I thought I might find it hard to approach the pub with a clean slate and not allow my dislike for it in past years to tarnish my opinion. But that proved an easy hurdle to overcome from the off, the initial greeting and friendliness of the two bar staff made it easy for me to recline and consider staying for a meal. Which I did. As coincidence had it I had visited on a tuesday which happened to be the day of the 2-4-1 burger offer. So I invited a nearby friend to join me. As promised the burgers were indeed home (or at least, butcher) made with a generous portion of chips and salad + sauces. Alongside the forever changing selection of real ales this is certainly a pub to visit again and again! Can't wait to visit in the summer, when I will be able to make use of the fantastic garden and sunday afternoon roasts. If you haven't been yet, wipe your mind of the old volunteer tavern, and approach this one with a fresh, and excited, mindset.

We had lunch at the newly-refurbished Volunteer Tavern today. It's clean and stylish with a very friendly welcome.

Beefburger was really homemade and delicious and the sausage and mash was excellent - lovely buttery mash and top quality sausages. Add to that the very well-kept beat and this is a real find. Just a few yards from Cabot Circus and so much better than the chain restaurants which are all that's on offer there.
