The ViewBristol Review
For pizza with a twist in an informal and colorful setting head to Planet Pizza.
The Venue
Set back from the street on a small strip of restaurants on Whiteladies Road, Planet Pizza's location in one of the more spruce areas of the city is a pleasure to spend time in.
Brightly painted, with an inviting al fresco dining area out at the front, you can pick up on Planet Pizza’s fun and funky buzz from outside.
Its youthful and attractive decor displays the work of local artists and photographers for sale on a rotating basis.
The People
This pizza joint is a vibrant, informal and relaxed place to dine. The staff are exceptionally smiley and welcoming, very helpful yet unobtrusive and you never feel rushed here.
It's favoured by students and young professionals, but you’ll occasionally spot a family. Planet Pizza is a place to catch up with friends, with a vibe reminiscent to the chill-out room of a nightclub.
Eating here always feels like fun, neatly illustrated by the fact they give you a shot glass of jellybeans with your bill.
The Food
They serve up the biggest and most delicious pizzas you can imagine. Choose from a playful menu that names its unique combinations of toppings after the planets.
A particularly mouthwatering one is Jupiter, with smoked Italian sausage, Spanish chorizo, spring onions and melted mozzarella. It costs £12.50, as do most of their pizzas.
Their fresh and full-bodied salads are also definitely worth a go - the salad nicoise is gorgeous and costs £5.95 for a small or £9.95 for a large.
Although the food’s not particularly cheap, the generous helpings represent good value for money.
Look out for the specials on the blackboard and the early evening two for one offer which runs from Sunday to Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm.
The Drink
They knock-up a perfect jug of sangria here for £16.50 for 1.5 litres, or £3.25 for a glass, which is an excellent accompaniment to eating outdoors and watching the world go by in the summer months.
The wine list is small but satisfactory with house wines starting at £11. They also do a nice little selection of bottled beers.
The Last Word
The source of Planet Pizza’s enduring appeal is its conceptual originality and playfulness. You’ll never have eaten in a place quite like this.
