Stuck for things to do this half term and Halloween? Bristol events for the final week in October, from spooky tours to fancy dress competitions, should help keep the little ones busy and give you a spine-chilling Halloween.

Saturday 24th October - 1st November 2009

The Lion, The Witch, And The Pumpkin Competition
It's the not the first place you'd think has ghosts and ghoulies, but Bristol Zoo has lots of things that go bump in the night. There's a magical tour of the zoo to help Winifred the Witch find her hat, and this takes place throughout the half-term week leading up to Halloween. Bristol events for Halloween also include some fantastic offers such as free entry to the zoo for children if they take along a carved or decorated pumpkin, and a full-paying adult! And the Halloween Bristol Zoo Festival ends with a fancy dress competition followed by a parade around the zoo.

Haunted Holes
Caves are spooky, especially when a group of ghosts and ghouls have hidden Winnie the Witch's hats. Kiddies can help Winnie find them again and possibly win a prize at the Clearwell Caves Halloween Witch Hat hunt taking place from 24th October - 1st November 2009. Or you could meet the famous Witch of Wookey Hole and enjoy a special Halloween circus at the Wookey Hole caves in Wells.

Thursday 22nd October - 31st October 2009

Fancy Dress Competitions
Another Bristol animal centre where things get supernatural this Halloween is Horseworld. Children aged three to 15 years old get free entry if they're dressed in suitably spooky outfits. There'll also be daily costume competitions, games and face painting and fake tattoos. Halloween Bristol events at Horseworld take place throughout half term.Standard admission prices apply.

Friday 30th October - Saturday 31st October 2009

Ghosts In The Attic
You can even add a bit of culture to this year's bubbling cauldron of Halloween Bristol events. To coincide with the acclaimed Ghosts In The Attic exhibition, which explores the attic rooms of Edward Jenner's former home, the museum is hosting candlelit tours of the spooky attic. Tours are limited so booking is essential and tickets cost £9.50 each. You'll also receive a winter warmer to thaw that spine chill.

Saturday 31st October 2009

Backstage Spirits
At the Bristol Old Vic there's a special Halloween backstage tour from 10.30pm till after midnight. You'll investigate the corridors and hidden corners of this historic building, parts of which the public never get to see. If it all gets too much, you can find Dutch courage in the basement where there'll be spiced wine and autumnal fare including pig's trotters, stuffed hearts and boiled turnips. Tickets cost £18 or £15 concessions. And for adults, there's plenty to keep you entertained this Halloween at Bristol clubs with fancy dress parties, and spooky goings on.

Horrid Halloween
Over at At-Bristol you can join their science team to learn some spooky and disgusting science tricks to try out on your friends and family. The activities run throughout the day and are free with a At-Bristol ticket.

Halloween Bristol events take place on or around 31st October 2009.
