The ViewBristol Review
This boldly-coloured cafe-bar fits in with its contemporary arts centre surroundings. The VenueArnolfini's facade may be a characterless shade of grey, but in keeping with its position as a contemporary arts house, its cafe-bar is bold with primary colours; aside from a few surfaces, the ceiling and walls are a shade of plump red.
The bar that lines the inside of this space pops out with its spectrum of blue, green, and secondary yellow. White chairs and maroon stools bring in a different layer of colours. Outside however, the regular outdoor furniture has colours that are more suited to the dock landscape.
The AtmosphereIn the summer, when the sun is out, the action is outside where almost the entire walkway is filled with loungers. At this time, the indoor space is a working machine responsible for providing the food and drink, and shelter to those not eager to soak up the sunshine, or for parents who would rather keep their young children away from the water.
The FoodAs well as light bites and freshly baked breads, daily specials include sandwiches (£4.95), salads (from £4.20) and fresh pasta dishes (from £5.95 to £19). The easy-to-prepare modern European menu is scribbled onto boards that are placed strategically throughout the cafe.
The DrinkIn colder weather, Fair Trade coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available to keep warm. In the hot weather, colder drinks are available. Unlike these drinks, wines (£3.50 to £4.95 per glass) are not seasonal, although the types are sourced from small European producers and regularly change their selection.
The Last WordIt is a fun, colourful space with a kitchen that produces a selection varied enough for families and groups of friends to enjoy an afternoon here.
